Missoula Community Theatre will present a play on the remarkable life of Montana’s first woman attorney, Ella Knowles.

“Ella: The Life and Times of Ella Knowles” will run one night only, Thursday, Sept. 21, at 5:30 p.m. The event will also include an evening of French food and musical guests.

Knowles was admitted to practice law in Montana in 1896, and she remained the only woman to practice in Montana until 1901.

She was nominated by the Populist Party for Montana attorney general in 1992, the first American woman to run for state attorney general, and nearly beat incumbent Henri Haskell – for whom she served as assistant attorney general and later married.
